Fragile Lisbon, Luís Pavão

The people i am showing you here were in Lisbon, they lived here and struggled here for their survival. They were real, they existed here, and did what they could to survivein the great metropolis. The photographic image reconstructs a piece of the city, a piece of the time, apiece of those who wandered around here, who spend their lives here. The photographs remain, while all that they depict has changed: the public houses have closed, the local associations have disassembled, the fado singers have lost their voices, the dancers have lost their charm, the orchestras have disappeared into thin air; their was a number of shocking demolitions, new buildings and new tenants, people who went away and other who came from afar to make their homes here.
